Museum & Education Annex Rentals

The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts offers Patron Members, nonprofits, and corporations the opportunity to host parties, meetings, and corporate event in two historically significant venues.

James Library Building (the Museum) at 9 Main Street Madison, NJ
The Historic James Library, home to the Museum since its founding in 1969, was built in 1899 by D. Willis James and served the community as the public library for over 60 years.  Built in the Richardson Romanesque Revival style, the building has beautiful stained glass windows, finely detailed woodwork, and three elaborately decorated fireplaces. It was restored to its original elegance in 1997 and today is the main building for the museum’s exhibits and collection. Renters have access to the entire Museum and can enjoy the magnificence of the building and two levels of  exhibits.  The Museum can comfortably accommodate 75 guests indoors, and seating is limited depending on current exhibitions. 

James Building (the Education Annex) at 23 Main Street, Madison, NJ
Located directly across  from the museum, the James Building is a magnificent example of  Renaissance Revival architecture and served as a commercial and community building since 1899. With high ceilings, bright natural light from large windows, and ample open space, the Annex is an ideal place for learning pods, educational class, workshops, business meetings, small fundraisers and other community groups to gather.  The Annex can accommodate up to 75 guests

The Museum and Education Annex contain objects of significant historic, artistic, and financial value. All uses must be consistent with the preservation of the property and the Museum’s collection.  The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts’ follows the guidelines of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for Third Party use of Historic Properties. Membership in the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts at the Patron Level is required for use of the property.

Harvest Bistro is the exclusive caterer for the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts.
